The short version: Lightning Rod is private software with one user, its author. It is not offered to anyone else, cannot be signed up for, and carries no warranty.

1. What this software is

Lightning Rod is a desktop business-management application built by Trevor Linder, trading as Lightning Rod Studios, for the private operation of a concept art, illustration and mural practice. It runs locally on the author’s own computer.

2. Who may use it

Only its author. The software is not published, distributed, licensed, sold or made available to the public. There is no sign-up, no user account system, and no mechanism by which any other person could obtain access.

3. Google account access

The application connects to the author’s own Google account with their explicit authorisation, in order to read business correspondence and calendar entries and to prepare message drafts. It never sends email. Access may be revoked at any time from the Google Account permissions page, after which those features simply stop working and the rest of the application continues to operate normally.

Handling of that data is described in the Privacy Policy.

4. No warranty

The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

5. Not professional advice

The application performs bookkeeping, pricing and scheduling calculations and can assemble draft contract language from templates. None of its output is legal, tax, accounting or financial advice. Figures it produces are working estimates to be checked, and any contract language it generates should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer before use. Responsibility for anything relied upon rests with the user.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of the software, including loss of data, loss of profit, or business interruption. As the sole user is also the author, this provision has no practical effect on any other party.

7. Data and backups

All data is stored locally and is the user’s own responsibility to back up. The application maintains local backups automatically, but these are not a substitute for an independent off-site copy.

8. Changes

These terms may be revised at any time. The current version is the one published at this address.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States.
